• Served as lead author for this area plan for Charleston, a suburban area of Las Vegas with over 75,000 residents. 

• Wrote policies on transportation, street design, parks, housing, and tactical design interventions. 

• Developed strategies to kickstart walkable growth, based in part on my PhD research on this topic.

• Conducted in-person facilitation, including pop-ups and open houses.

Town of Wolfville  |  Happy Cities, RVA, CIMA+. 2025 - 2026

• Secured public and council support for new parking strategies, including dynamic parking pricing and the elimination of parking requirements.

• Secured Council support for focusing on slow, steady traffic flow, not speed, to create a high-quality pedestrian environment.

• Identified a range of options for intersection redesigns.

• Facilitated Council and stakeholder discussions on intersection redesigns.

Overland Park, KS |  With Happy Cities. 2025 - 2026

• Wrote guidelines for designing walkable communities, including how to kickstart compact, mixed-use development within car-dependent contexts.

• Facilitated a full-day interdepartmental workshop to develop consensus on how to work together to implement walkable design.

• Created videos on what walkability means and its value.

• Authored updates to the Town’s Municipal Planning Strategy. 

• Outlined costs and benefits for growth options.

• Planned and facilitated public engagement for this major transit-oriented development project around the new Mill Cove ferry terminal.

• Co-authored national urban design assessment guidelines.

• Created a Wellbeing Assessment Tool to evaluate how multi-family developments support walkability and social connection.

• Researched evidence-based best practices for supporting wellbeing through design.

Heliopolis Homes  |  With Smarter Streets and Happy Cities. 2017-2025

• Co-designed the layout for thse two complete community developments including multifamily housing, townhomes, and retail space. Blue Ocean Estates is located in suburban Halifax, NS, and Olde Town Hills is located in the rural town of Bridgewater.

• Identified design strategies to hide parking and to create social, people-friendly streets and public spaces.

• Helped write planning application documents.

Nova Scotia Community Transit Network  |  With Happy Cities. 2024 - 2026

• Identified transit network pilot projects for all three communities, including potential network redesigns.

• Analyzed transit data and co-wrote a report on the impact of pilot projects.

• Conducted engagement, including with ride-alongs on transit buses.

Vancouver Coastal Health  |  With Happy Cities. 2023-2024

• Provided research guidance for this study of the impacts of density on wellbeing. 

• Wrote a literature review on the impacts of density on wellbeing.

Halifax Regional Municipality  |  With Happy Cities. 2023-2024

• Served as lead author on a report analyzing gaps in the current arts ecosystem. 

• Created an inventory of arts venues in the Halifax region.

• Coordinated public and stakeholder consultation.

Tysons Community Alliance  |  With Happy Cities, ZGF Architects, and MKSK. 2024

• Organized an “engagement through placemaking” event, in which we transformed a parking lot with paint, picnic tables, astro turf, and more.

• Provided guidance on a placemaking strategy aimed at kickstarting investment in compact, mixed-use development, based in part on my PhD research on Tysons.

• Collaborated with Deloitte to design a program to fast-track development proposals from a list of “trusted partners,” who have a track record for applications that follow applicable rules. (Final report here).

• Mapped multiple development application streams for Halifax Regional Municipality.

• Helped coordinate public engagement for this large-scale redevelopment.

• Went door-to-door to discuss options for relocation for existing residents, helping to manage their stresses and fears during a difficult process.

• Articulated these concerns to the developers and to seek solutions.

• Synthesized research on the impact of placemaking interventions on indicators of wellbeing, including social ties, health, and economic investment.

• Summarized research into a brief, compelling visual presentation.

• Identified design options for a safe active transportation connection across a highway between a mobile home community and a bus terminal, in collaboration with DesignPoint.

• Facilitated public consultation, including pop-up events and an open house.

• Helped develop guidelines for designing campus expansions to support vibrancy, social ties, and wellbeing.
